Writing Prompts: Pull the Trigger
I was watching CSI: Las Vegas the other night. Or rather, I was flipping through the channels and tuned into the last fifteen minutes of it. In this episode, Hodges decided to help Grissom with the Miniature Killer murders, an unsolved case where a serial killer left miniature replicas of the crime scenes. Hodges had found a link that connected all of the murders. In every crime scene, there was some incarnation of bleach to be found. Inspired by this clue, Grissom described a rare condition where people went into a murderous rage triggered by a word, item…whatever.
Today, we are going to explore the effect that symbols have on us when we come up against them. Positively or negatively, things that have meaning to us do trigger something inside of us when we come across them. Sometimes the effect is subtle and sometimes the effect is extreme as in the CSI example. Use the following symbols to transform your characters into heroes or villains according to their nature.
1. A wedding ring.
2. An Ankh.
3. A Monopoly game.
4. Big Ben
5. The personal computer.
