Writing Prompts: Beginnings

Well, it’s Monday again. I hope your weekend was so great that the memory of it will help you get through the next five days of the work grind. And for those of you who have the good fortune to be able to make a living as a writer, I say: Pfffffbbbt.

Just kidding. I thought we would ease into this week’s set of writing prompts with something easy. Here are five first liners. Where you go from there is up to you and your imagination.

1. The blood squirted everywhere.

2. Love used to be such an easy game to play.

3. She walked past the store window, paused and backed up, unable to believe what she had just seen.

4. God looked down and said, “What the hell…”

5. Like every night for the past week, as soon as the light was turned off, the sickeningly slithery noises began under the bed.
